WWE WrestleMania 41 results (Night 2) and commentary from Danny Damage!
Previously On The Showcase of Commercials…
AdvertMania season is almost over, and WWE expect us to attract new fans when people see how fatigued we are from 9999 hours of wrestling in a single week.
Once upon a time, “always leave them wanting more” was sound advice, and onlookers would react (positively) to seeing fans of something craving that next hit.
Following suit from yesterday’s aggressive ad-fest, Michael Cole did TWO live reads for the main event’s individual sponsor before it started, and he also squeezed a plug for Pat McAfee’s podcast in before it ended.
Give it a fucking rest, you shameless whores.
WWE WrestleMania 41 Results (Night 2)
Yeah, I’ve still got a sickeningly sour taste in my mouth from last night and it’s not going away.
I think I might be done with in-depth coverage of WWE for the time being, as their whorish behaviour has gotten way out of hand.
As I’ve said for years, when you break up your momentum to cram other people’s crap in, you derail what you were meant to be doing.
This drastically reduces how much enjoyment can be had, which was a problem that was pretty bad in Vince McMahon’s later years.
Somehow, it’s even worse today!
IO SKY vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Bianca Belair (WWE Women’s Title)
Winner: IO SKY (pinfall)
Now that this is out of the way, Rhea and Bianca can feud with each other.
Drew McIntyre vs. Damian Priest (Street Fight)
Winner: Drew McIntyre (pinfall)
I’m glad I was wrong about the result for this. Priest is a favoured WWE pet, and I thought this was yet another attempt at convincing us that he’s some sort of legit tough guy.
Bron Breakker vs. Dominik Mysterio vs. Penta vs. Finn Bálor (Intercontinental Title)
Winner: Dominik Mysterio (pinfall)
A surprise win for Dirty Dom, he even clashed with Finn in the match and essentially stole the final pinfall from him.
Randy Orton vs. Joe Hendry (Orton’s Open Challenge)
Winner: Randy Orton (pinfall)
A nice way to get Orton his 20th AdvertMania appearance AND get some eyes on the TNA Champion, Joe Hendry.
Logan Paul vs. AJ Styles
Winner: Logan Paul (pinfall)
Lyra Valkyria & Becky Lynch vs. Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez (Women’s Tag Titles)
Winners: Lyra Valkyria & Becky Lynch (pinfall)
Bayley was attacked backstage, so Lynch made her return and replaced her. Give it time, it will likely come out that it was Becky who created this opportunity for herself.
Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena
Winner: John Cena (pinfall)
These two battled for 30 minutes while everyone on the commentary table and everyone in the crowd tried to make the moment about themselves.
Then, that 100lb fake musician from Elimination Chamber/The Rock’s gimp box came down rubbing a WWE Hardcore Title he bought/was gifted as if that means something.
I get that have some scrawny little bell-end running around and getting heat is good, but there are countless up-and-coming wrestlers in the back who could have done with the exposure AND outperformed this plastic pop personality.
Anyway, he caused enough distraction/confusion for Cena to boot Cody in the balls, KO him with the belt, and get the win.
Cena now goes down in history as the first to beat Ric Flair’s record, although all of Cena’s titles are from the company still operational enough to keep count.
It won’t last long, though, as Charlotte “Astro Turf” Flair will soon obliterate this accolade once the media buzz around Cena’s win calms down.
“Organic” is a filthy word in WWE land.
And Another Thing…
The crowd boo’d the shit out of Cody, but they happily sang along with his intro music so they could (you guessed it!) make it all about themselves.
Not so long ago, this was just an issue during the Raw after ‘Mania and if WWE performed somewhere that rarely got live shows. Now, everyone wants the spotlight.
Perhaps WWE did find that mythical “casual/mainstream” audience that Vince salivated over late at night, as most of these don’t appear to be there for the wrestling.
Fickle.
